Developer White Lodging is preparing to start construction on a boutique hotel near La Villita. Renderings of the rooftop bar were released in 2019, but current designs could be drastically different.

Plans for a boutique hotel with a rooftop bar near La Villita have changed a bit since it was first proposed in 2019, with Indiana-based developers planning to kick off construction soon.

When the Historic Design and Review Commission approved hotel developer White Lodging's plans for the boutique hotel at 431 S. Alamo Street in December 2019, it was presented as a nine-story, 275-room hotel.

It is now planned as a 10-story, 347-room boutique hotel with a rooftop bar and pool overlooking an unnamed street-level steakhouse, a White Lodging spokesperson tells MySA in an email statement.

"We expect to announce more details on this exciting project, including brand and design specifics, later this summer," the White Lodging representative says.

This is one of the street-level entrances to White Lodging's planned boutique hotel. The design as represented may have changed from these renderings released in 2019.

The developer recently filed a construction permit with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, listing an estimated cost of $95 million for the project.

White Lodging also plans on renovating two historic buildings on the property that were once used as German-English schools in the late 1850s. The schools were also used as a grammar school, high school, and offices for Hemisfair.

Construction is expected to start in September with an anticipated completion date August 2024. As always, details in TDLR filings are subject to change.

The courtyard  at the Otis Hotel, a separate project White Lodging is doing right next to its upcoming boutique hotel, will feature swanky outdoor lounges next to guest bungalows.

White Lodging is also leading a complete luxury overhaul of the old Marriott Plaza hotel at 555 S. Alamo Street. It will reopen as the Otis Hotel San Antonio, Autograph Collection in the first half of 2023.

It will feature a covered entrance for vehicles, resort-style pool, bar, meeting rooms, a destination spa, and space for a new restaurant and bar featuring "cross-cultural cuisine."
