Ottobike Ovaobike MCR Electric Bike Range Debuts In Europe - ZigWheels

Ottobike, a Taiwanse company, made headlines last year at EICMA with its range of Ovaobike MCR range of electric monkey bikes. Now, the bikes have made their way to the European market, and here’s all you need to know about these pocket rockets:

Small In Size, Big On Style

The Ovaobike MCR electric bikes are undeniably cool-looking pint-sized hooligans. From the sinister-looking headlight housing the LED DRL which resembles Iron Man’s arc reactor to the chiselled fuel tank with the flared extensions and the floating rear mudguard, everything just blends well to make these e-bikes all the more desirable.

These inconspicuous-looking monkey bikes pack some serious performance. In fact, its base variant is more powerful than the Tork Kratos R. Here’s a look at the specifications of each variant of the Ovaobike MCR lineup:

Yes, the mid and top variants pack liquid-cooled motors. While the base variant has a claimed top speed of 105kmph, same as the Kratos R, the mid and top variant can go up to 130kmph and 148kmph, respectively. Although, these are courtesy of a ‘Turbo’ mode, which provides instant jolt for quick overtakes. This mode is for short bursts only and deactivates itself to allow the motor to cool down.

Spacecraft-grade Chassis For These Pocket Rockets

Ottobikes has used a complex chassis structure for the MCR minibikes. It comprises a cast-iron main frame that houses the battery and is connected to a steel front sub-frame, a rear subframe made of spacecraft-grade aluminium alloy and a cast-iron-mix swingarm.

The chassis is complemented by equally competent hardware. For the base variant, Ottobikes has chosen a 35mm USD fork and link-type monoshock paired with 270mm/230mm disc brake setup. Meanwhile, the mid and top variants use the same USD fork as the base variant, but feature preload and rebound adjustable rear monoshock. Even the braking hardware has been upgraded with Brembo calipers at both ends. All the three variants run on the same Maxxis 14-inch tyres.

Futuristic Features To Appease The Gen-Z

From light sensor-enabled headlight, phone connectivity to keyless ignition, USB charging and GPS capabilities, the MCR range has a lot to boast of. But some of its impressive features include a unique regenerative braking system. With the left pedal, you can alter the amount of regen generated. Then there’s the unique trunk storage in these e-bikes. In fact, the top variant has enough storage to gobble up a full-face helmet.

These Crotch Rockets Demand Sky-High Prices

The Ovaobikes MCR-H is priced at GBP 9250 (Rs 8.73 lakh) while the MCR-M will set you back by GBP 12,550 (Rs 11.84 lakh) and the S variant demands GBP 13,500 or Rs 12.74 lakh. These are steep prices, especially considering that these are monkey bikes, and aren’t going to appeal to a broad range of riders.
